In 2017, we successfully pushed Mayor Dyer and the City Commissioners to unanimously pledge to transition Orlando to 100% clean renewable energy by 2050. And in 2020, our advocacy convinced Mayor Dyer to declare a climate emergency. With this declaration, our movement is in a stronger position than ever to make the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) live up to the city’s commitment to 100% clean renewable energy. This means investing in energy justice for our Orlando residents, by helping them lower their utility bills through energy efficiency investments and supporting energy democracy by enabling the expansion of rooftop solar and net metering. These measures will not only help Orlando residents save money, but will streamline the transition away from fossil fuels and into 100% clean renewable energy.
