Are You Feeling the Heat? Extreme Heat Now & What’s In Store For Our Future
August 26 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
In partnership with The Union of Concerned Scientists
Speaker: Dr. Rachel Licker
Already this summer many regions of the United States have been trapped under “heat domes,” and deaths attributed to extreme heat are now in the hundreds. These extreme heat events exemplify an alarming trend, with the last seven years having been the hottest on record. Join us for a presentation by Rachel Licker, PhD, Senior Climate Scientist with the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS). Dr. Licker will present on how climate change is affecting extreme heat this summer and how it is likely to affect things into the future, as well as how extreme heat may collide with other climate impacts in Florida. Extreme heat poses a threat to the health and safety of all Floridians, and especially to those who work outdoors without mandated access to water, rest, and shade. Dr. Licker will give an overview of UCS tools and maps to show how extreme heat will affect where you live, and how you can use this information to advocate for equitable solutions.
