Miami, FL – Today, Vice-President Kamala Harris is in Miami to announce over $1 billion in federal funding for 53 states, territories, and D.C, to improve their infrastructure and make communities more resilient. The CLEO Institute praises the Biden-Harris administration for their investments to address the climate crisis. These funds coming from the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) and Flood Mitigation Assistance programs will help communities become climate ready. This $1 billion investment is double the amount of the $500 million investment the Administration made last year showcasing the seriousness the Administration is placing on the climate emergency.
Additionally, when addressing climate change the Administration is doing so with environmental justice in mind. The CLEO Institute praises the Justice40 Initiative and the leadership President Biden and Vice-President Harris have shown in addressing the climate crisis equitably.
The CLEO Institute is ecstatic to see these federal investments, equitable prioritization of funds, and emphasis placed on increasing resilience to the impacts of climate change and extreme weather events. As a Miami-based organization, we’re at ground zero of the climate crisis, and having the support of the Biden-Harris Administration is needed in addressing the climate emergency. The CLEO Institute hopes that President Biden still considers his executive powers and declares a National climate emergency to streamline the federal response to the climate crisis.
